CLASSIC MAINE COAST COTTAGE

About

The front of this property was a morphed vegetation of bittersweet, honeysuckle, rose, and weeds. The homeowner wished to reconstruct the original coastal Maine landscaping, highlighting a ledge area and using natural-looking and native plants. They wanted to have a landscape reflecting a natural aesthetic, and complimenting the ledge and house structure, which are the prominent elements of this property. To accommodate the extensive ledge and its associated drop in grade we made extensive use of boulders and stone to simulate an extension of the ledge.

After DEP approval, the invasive material was mechanically removed. The ledge area was manually cleaned to remove all soil and weed roots. A planting mix was added to the pockets in the ledge to create planting areas, and the natural beauty of the landscape was revealed.
